BCIS report forecasts a growth in market demand in all infrastructure sectors despite years of decline
Demand will grow in construction output in the civil engineering market in all infrastructure sectors over the coming years despite several years of decline, according to the latest ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø Cost Information Service (BCIS) Civil Engineering Market Report.
Produced to coincide with the release of the BCIS Civil Engineering Price Book, the report says that despite the downturn in the UK and world economies, the outlook for civil engineering is much better than it has been for some time. Output stabilised in 2007 although the overall size of the sector was reduced by nearly a third during the last five years.
Much of the forecast growth is expected to come from public spending. The size of current commitments and the connection of many of the schemes to the 2012 Olympics and the Green Agenda give some confidence to the forecast of strong growth ahead.
The report looks at recent patterns in demand and costs as well as likely trends over the next two years including a forecast of costs. It also includes the BCIS General Civil Engineering Cost Index.
