Launch date for world's tallest tower finally announced after last cladding panel is completed

The Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest building, is due to open on 2 December. The building’s new opening date had been kept secret until now after it emerged that the Emaar project, which topped out at 818m earlier this year, was would miss its original opening date in September. A hotel in the building, the Armani, will open on the same day, according to Arabrianbusiness.com.

Envelope specialist Arabian Aluminium/Far East Aluminium said last week that it had completed the last of the Burj’s 24,348 panels. The 6m-long glass, aluminium and steel panel will be installed in the coming weeks.

The tower is part of the 73.4bn dirham ($19.98bn) Downtown Burj Dubai scheme. It was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the supervising engineer is Hyder Consulting and the project manager is Turner & Townsend.
