Wates boss wins first ever CEO鈥檚 CEO of the year, plus full list of 黑洞社区 Awards winners

Andrew Davies was crowned winner of the first ever CEOs鈥 CEO of the Year gong at the 黑洞社区 Awards.

The Wates chief executive was recognised by his peers for his contribution to the construction industry, among a host of winners at construction鈥檚 biggest celebration of the year.

Hosted by Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt, the ceremony at the Grosvenor House hotel in London鈥檚 Mayfair this evening was attended by 1,400 of the great and good of the industry.

Since joining Wates from BAE Systems in 2014, Davies has embarked on an ambitious plan to double the family-owned contractor鈥檚 turnover to 拢2bn, and is well on the way to achieving this after acquiring the bulk of rival Shepherd鈥檚 construction business.

The judges said Davies has placed a commitment to social value at the heart of Wates鈥 business, and the company was awarded the prestigious Queen鈥檚 Award for Enterprise for sustainable development in April.

Sadie Morgan, founder of architecture practice dRMM and chair of the HS2 design panel, was named 黑洞社区 Magazine personality of the year.

Tamsin Tweddell, senior partner at Max Fordham, took 黑洞社区 Magazine鈥檚 woman of the year award, while Nora Taylor of Arcadis was highly commended in the same category by the judges.

Project of the year was scooped by Mace鈥檚 work on Birmingham New Street train station, in partnership with Network Rail and Atkins.
