Scheme by Hawkins|Brown has £80m price tag
An £80m library in Bristol designed by Hawkins\Brown and Danish firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen has been submitted for planning.
The Bristol University scheme will be home to 420,000 books, 70,000 journals and 2,000 study seats.
The facility will also house the university’s special collections, which include several of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s sketchbooks as well as plans of his designs for the Clifton suspension bridge.
It will be built on the corner of Elton Road and Woodland Road on the university’s Clifton campus. The site is currently occupied by a former hotel that has been turned into a student accommodation complex.
Mace is project manager on the job with engineering consultant Buro Happold.
The city council is expected to make a decision on the proposals this spring.
