Financial close on third wave of borough鈥檚 schools brings total number redeveloped to 14

Bouygues UK has reached financial close on a 拢61.5m programme with Tower Hamlets Council to deliver the third wave of the borough鈥檚 secondary school building project.

Batch 3 of Tower Hamlets鈥 Secondary Education 黑洞社区 programme brings the total number of schools undergoing regeneration in the borough to 14 with a minimum of three more to come.

The programme comprises new build, heavy refurbishment, remodelling and refreshment and the schools benefitting will be Langdon Park School, Stepney Green Mathematics and Computing College, Central Foundation School for Girls and Phoenix School.

This batch is being delivered through the 黑洞社区 Schools for the Future scheme, despite the cancellation of many of the other projects last year.

Mayor Lutfur Rahman, Tower Hamlets Council, said: 鈥満诙瓷缜 Schools for the Future is not just about bricks and mortar, it is about the young people who will experience life-changing benefits from this investment in their future. Improvements that we see today will act as a catalyst helping to improve educational attainment in the future.鈥

Bouygues UK have completed 24 new and refurbished school buildings in five of London鈥檚 boroughs over the past six years, with a further 16 currently under construction or yet to commence.
