Problem jobs hit firm but construction income jumps 8%
The French construction to telecoms giant Bouygues has said turnover at its construction business was up 8% to €28bn (£24.4bn) last year.
But the firm, which is carrying out work on a Taylor Wimpey scheme to turn part of the Royal Mail’s sorting office at Mount Pleasant in north London into new homes (pictured), said operating profit was down €28m (£24.4m) to €915m (£798m) with the contractor blaming three energy and services contracts for the fall.
It said that its overseas business accounted for nearly two-thirds of its €8.6bn (£7.5bn) pipeline of work at the year end.
Group revenue at the firm, which includes the French TF1 TV channel, the most popular in the country, along with its telecoms arm, was up 8% to €35.5bn (£31bn). Operating profit for the 12 months to December 2018 rose 17% to €1.8bn (£1.6bn).
