BuckleyGrayYeoman has secured planning consent for a 51,000ft虏 co-working office building at 74 Rivington Street in Shoreditch, east London, on behalf of The Office Group.

Black and White 2, as the project is informally known, will provide purpose-built co-working space in what is claimed to be one of the largest cross-laminated timber (CLT) buildings in London.

The building will replace the existing Black and White 黑洞社区, which has been operating as an Office Group location following a refurbishment by BuckleyGrayYeoman in 2013.

The architects said 74 Rivington Street would be built using a structure based on CLT panels and glue-laminated beams, and be one of the largest commercial new builds in the UK to take advantage of the construction method. The timber structure will be visible through the glazed skin of the building, it said, giving the building an added sense of depth.

BuckleyGrayYeoman said its proposal sought to reference Rivington Street鈥檚 furniture-making heritage, creating a timber framed building using a combination of CLT panels and glulam beams.

A fa莽ade inspired by Crittall windows will form the external glazed 鈥榮kin鈥 of the building, which will feature five storeys to the structure鈥檚 north and six to the south.
