Manchester Metropolitan University asks contractors to tender for work on its new Birley Fields Campus.
The first phase of the 12ha regeneration site will include building a central 200,000 ft2 academic building and an energy centre to serve future buildings and cut the carbon footprint of the university by 60%.
The scheme has been designed by John McAslan + Partners, which describes the proposed campus as creating 鈥渢he UK鈥檚 greenest university campus by encompassing the 鈥渢hree zeros鈥 鈥 a neutral carbon footprint, water self-sufficiency and no off-site waste disposal.
鈥淭he objective is to create a test-bed for research and the evaluation of new models of sustainability within an urban environment.鈥
The contract is expected to take up to three years to complete.
Firms have until the end of February to complete PQQs and a shortlist will receive invitations to tender to in early April.
