John Watson says talk of Bellway targeting smaller rival is 'press speculation'
The chief executive of Bellway has denied weekend press reports that the company has approached Redrow about a 拢1.3bn takeover.
The Mail on Sunday reported that Bellway had targeted its smaller listed rival, the second time it had made an attempt to take over the firm.
However, chief executive John Watson told 黑洞社区.co.uk: 鈥淭here are no talks going on with Redrow. It鈥檚 just bloody press speculation. Hopefully next week they鈥檒l think of someone else to talk about.鈥�
Shares in Redrow rose 6.36% to 280p, while shares in Bellway rose 3.49% to 拢25.00 in early trading.
Both companies鈥� share prices have been hit hard by the credit crunch, with Redrow's now worth less than half of their value this time last year.
