Wandsworth grants detailed planning for Ian Simpson and dRMM designs
The first phase of the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station has been granted detailed planning persmission.
Wandsworth Council last night approved the reserved matters application which consists of two mixed-use buildings of varied heights between 8 and 18 storeys designed by architects Ian Simpson and dRMM.
Simpson鈥檚 glazed buiding shares a podium with the smaller timber-clad building by dRMM.
They will be built to the west of the power station next to a new six-acre public park and will provide
800 homes, a hotel and space for cafes, restaurants, bars, a gym, pool, spa, theatre and office studios.
Rob Tincknell, Chief Executive Officer of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said:
鈥淲e are absolutely delighted that we have the green light on the detailed planning permission for the first phase of Battersea Power Station.
In the wake of last week鈥檚 announcement by the UK government to support the extension of the Northern Line underground line to Battersea and Nine Elms, we have seen a new rush of interest in the development from potential purchasers. It is incredibly exciting for us that we will be selling residential units off plan next month.鈥
In this month鈥檚 Autumn Statement, the Chancellor confirmed the UK government鈥檚 support for a 拢1 billion loan and a guarantee to extend the Northern Line to Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station.
Earlier this year, a consortium of three of Malaysia鈥檚 biggest companies, SP Setia, Sime Derby, and the Employee鈥檚 Provident Fund, paid 拢400m to buy the power station after it was placed into administration by lenders when the previous Irish owner Treasury Holdings ran into financial difficulties.
