Shortlist narrows to two as Laing O鈥橰ourke consortium eliminated
Bam is up against Sir Robert McAlpine in the final stage of the race to win a 拢200m super campus job from Scotland鈥檚 largest college.
Following the shortlisting of nine consortia for the City of Glasgow College New Campus scheme last November, the college narrowed the bidding to three bidding consortia in March: Bam PPP, Glasgow Partnership for Learning (Laing O鈥橰ourke) and Glasgow Learning Quarter (Sir Robert McAlpine).
The Laing O鈥橰ourke consortium has now been eliminated with a preferred bidder expected to be selected from the final two left in the running early next year.
Plans for the campus have been on the drawing board since the city鈥檚 Nautical, Central and Metropolitan colleges merged in 2010.
Two facilities will be built on existing college land in Glasgow city centre and on the banks of the River Clyde. The existing Clyde teaching block will be demolished and rebuilt.
When completed in 2016 the new campus will accommodate 40,000 students and over 1000 members of staff and deliver significant community benefits, according to the college.
The project is financially and strategically supported by the Scottish Funding Council and the project team is also working with the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) to deliver the project using the Scottish Government鈥檚 NPD (Non-Profit Distributing) procurement model.
