Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering (BBRCE) has bagged multiple civil engineering contracts totalling 拢143m in the first quarter of 2012.

BBRCE deputy managing director, Murray Easton, said the contract awards represent a 拢17m increase on the same period in 2011.

He said: 鈥淭he nature of our business is such that we have the expertise necessary to carry out projects over a wide range of civil engineering disciplines. We look forward to working with our new and existing customers to successfully deliver these contracts.鈥

Some the contracts awarded to BBRCE include:

  • Coastal defence: At Selsey on the Sussex coast, as one half of a joint venture, BBRCE will be undertaking the largest privately funded coastal defence scheme to date in the UK, for Holiday Park operator - Bunn Leisure. The contract, valued at 拢12.3m will see the creation of two off-shore rock breakwaters which will protect Bunn Leisure鈥檚 West Sands Holiday Park from flooding
  • Roads: Having completed Phase 1 of the Doncaster Southern Gateway (White Rose Way), BBRCE has been awarded the 拢11m contract to carry out Phase 2. The Doncaster Council-led contract involves construction of a new dual carriageway as well as replacing roundabouts with traffic signal controls. Once complete, the A6182 White Rose Way will be a dual carriageway in its entirety easing congestion and improving journey times
  • Canals: The Helix Canal contract in Falkirk, Scotland. Valued at 拢13.5m the design and construct scheme to extend the Forth and Clyde canal under the M9 to a new sea lock on the River Carron will make access to the canal possible at all stages of the tide. The contract also includes construction of the foundations for the two, 30 metre high 鈥楰elpie鈥 structures which are the main feature of the development.
