Firm preferred bidder on five-year Suffolk county outsourcing deal
Contractor Balfour Beatty has won preferred bidder status on a 拢200m outsourcing contract to maintain highways for Suffolk County Council.
Balfour Beatty said the awarding of the five year contract was still 鈥渟ubject to formal legal procedures鈥�, but that if approved it would see the firm design and implement highway maintenance and improvement works, winter gritting, street lighting, traffic signals and bridge works throughout the county.
The contractor will be required to achieve savings of 拢2m in 2013-14 and improve Suffolk鈥檚 environmental performance, and will take on 200 staff from Suffolk and Ipswich councils.
If approved, the contract comes into effect from April 1 and has an option to extend to 10 years.
