Firm jumps from fourth place in civils and non-civils league tables, while Kier and Galliford Try also climb
Balfour Beatty shot to the top of the contractors’ table last month, with a £193m contract haul.
The firm moved from fourth spot to top both contractors league tables in June, including and excluding civils, with the firm bagging 35 contracts.
Kier moved from third spot in the league table including civils up to second in June - and remained second in the table excluding civils. The firm also moved into first spot in the yearly work won table, edging out Laing O’Rourke, with £1.57bn in contract wins.
Galliford Try moved from 11th into third last month in the monthly tables with a £143m haul, including a £38m housing scheme for Kitewood Estates/Gallions Housing in Tottenham. ISG moved from 19th to fourth and Wates from 18th to fifth. ISG won £120m of contracts, including a £44m refurb job for Kato Kagaku Co in Aldwych, while a £32m batch of schools through the Priority School ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø Programme helped Wates to a £117m haul.
Overall the CPA/Barbour ABI construction index rose from 117 last month to 119 - which was also its level for the whole of the second quarter, a 7% rise on Q1 of 2013.
The index, compiled by the Construction Products Association (CPA) using data from construction information firm Barbour ABI, measures contract awards and uses a January 2010 base of 100.
Correction: Due to an error in data provided, it was wrongly reported in last month’s Barometer that Van Oord had won £650m worth of work on the Swansea tidal energy lagoon scheme. In fact, Van Oord is an active partner in the consortium which is studying how to realise the tidal lagoon.
