Atkins has won a three-year contract worth more than 拢70m to help co-ordinate the development of Qatar鈥檚 transport and infrastructure.

The contract, from the Qatar Ministry of Municipality, will 鈥渦nderpin Qatar鈥檚 2030 vision for world class infrastructure development,鈥� according to Atkins.

The firm will now establish a Central Planning Office (CPO) to co-ordinate current and planned road, rail, metro and other major transport and infrastructure projects, including elements associated with the FIFA 2022 World Cup.

Uwe Krueger, Atkins鈥� chief executive said: 鈥淭his latest contract win in Qatar strengthens our position in the region even further as we are working with government stakeholders to help them to deliver the most comprehensive and integrated infrastructure investment programme in the region鈥檚 history.鈥�

Qatar鈥檚 2030 vision includes programmes for education, health, science and sport, all of which must be connected by 鈥榤ultimodal鈥� transport infrastructure.

The latest win follows the announcement in November that Akins had won a five-year contract worth around 拢65m to upgrade the roads and drainage systems in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Atkins set up its Doha office almost a decade ago and moved to larger premises in November to support its long term growth in the country. The company is currently working on several key highways projects across the state, including the concept design of the Khalifa, Rayyan and Al Bustan roads.
