North London architect was chosen from 70 small practices to redesign the main walkway through the Olympic Park
Architect Adams & Sutherland, a small practice based in north London, has won a major competition to redesign the main walkway through the Olympic Park for the 2012 games.
The Greenway is a 3km public walkway that runs from West Ham to Victoria Park in east London. Following the multi-million pound redesign, the ODA said the pathway will become a key walking and cycling route.
Jerome Frost, head of design at the ODA, said the practice鈥檚 plans would help towards the sustainability strategy of the games. He said: 鈥淎dams and Sutherland鈥檚 ideas around the re-use of demolition materials from other parts of the Olympic Park to create different surface textures along the Greenway helped make a winning submission.鈥
Adams & Sutherlands employs nine people, and its projects include refurbishing and extending a Margaret Macmillan Children's Centre in Islington, north London and a masterplan for Bow Church in east London.
Seventy practices applied for the scheme, which was aimed at small and up-and-coming practices, and five were shortlisted.
The other four shortlisted teams were: Landscape Architects, Erect Architecture, Alison Brookes Architects and PLUS.
The ODA said A&S will implement the designs in summer 2008.
