Contractor-led consortium Environments for Learning will rebuild two schools

Interserve has reached financial close on a 拢63m schools project for St Helens Council.

The Interserve-led consortium Environments for Learning (E4L) will rebuild two schools, Rainford High Technology School and De La Salle School, at a cost of 拢48m.

Interserve will subsequently deliver facilities management services at Rainford worth 拢15m over a 25-year period and E4L partner Agilisys will provide ICT equipment and related managed services.

The projects will be part-financed through PFI. The contractor and its consortium partner Barclays European Infractructure Fund will each invest 拢1.8m in the project and the Co-Operative Bank will provide 拢33m of funding.

Two thirds of Rainford School will be new, providing places for 1,650 pupils from ages 11 to 18.

At De La Selle around half of the buildings will be new, while the remainder will undergo extensive refurbishment. The school will have places for 1,215 pupils from ages 11 to 16.

E4L and St Helens Council will form the St Helens Local Education Partnership (LEP), a strategic partnership through which the consortium will have the opportunity to put forward proposals to work with the council on future developments over a 10-year period.
