Major European markets set to see an increase in timber frame construction
The number of European buildings built using timber frames is expected to increase over the next five years according to research.
The quarterly European Architectural Barometer survey of 1,200 architects across six European nations showed most architects expect the use of timber frames to increase over the next five years.
In the UK 59% of architects said they expected to design more timber frame buildings while only 21% said they expected an increase in use of on-site concrete construction.
The trend appeared most strongly in France where 70% of architects said they expected an increase in timber frame buildings.
Of the six nations surveyed only Spain was split on the future of timber frames with 35% of architects saying they expected there to be decrease and 31% saying they expected there to be an increase in their use.
The other nations surveyed were Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.
