Poor HS2. It鈥檚 had a tough time recently.

It has been a decade since the project was conceived and there seem to be more people than ever who think it鈥檚 a terrible idea. 

The year kicked off badly when it emerged in January that the chief executive of High Speed 2, Mark Thurston, had floated a number of cost-cutting measures 鈥� including reducing the speed of trains on the line by 50km/h. It got worse barely a week later when Sir Terry Morgan, former chair of HS2, admitted that 鈥渘obody knows鈥� how much the scheme would cost.
