Brexit and a stalling economy are unsettling the market – but the consultants in this year’s Top 150 tables have strategies up their sleeves
This year’s list of the industry’s top 150 architects, surveyors, engineers and project managers at first glance shows an industry enjoying steady growth in staff and fees. The UK turnover of the industry’s biggest firms grew by a very healthy 12%, while the number of people they employed grew, albeit more modestly, by 3.5%, to just shy of 75,000.
But all is by no means rosy in the garden. With the Brexit-inspired political turmoil reaching crisis point, a stalling economy and increasing fears over the UK’s pipeline of infrastructure work, there is diminishing confidence that years of growth can continue. David Hunter, chairman at 329-strong architect and planner Stride Treglown, says: “We’re holding our breath to see what happens.â€
