Passivhaus for north Essex

This week鈥檚 #buildingdoodle sketch is by Chris Exley, director at Water Lane Architects, and shows a zero-carbon, Passivhaus scheme at concept design stage for a village site in north Essex. He says: 鈥淭he design developed from analysing the site and surroundings and developing a passive solar plan and section for the building, making optimal use of solar and ground source 鈥榝ree鈥� gains, plus solar power generation for the house and for electric vehicle charging. The site layout also includes a half-size allotment area for growing fruit and vegetables, a reed bed treatment and filtration area, and surface water attenuation via pond and ditches.鈥�
