SLIM HOUSE

PRODUCTS1

Kingspan Kooltherm insulation was chosen for a retrofit of a very narrow house in central London. Slim House, a mid-terrace in Clapham, measures just 2.3 metres across internally. Architect Alma-nac was hired to design an extension for the rear of the property. Contractors installed two 75mm layers of Kingspan Kooltherm K7 Pitched Roof Board between the joists. This was followed by a further 37.5mm thick Kingspan Kooltherm K18. The company says that insulated plasterboard helps prevent thermal bridging through the joists and can help achieve an overall roof U-value of 0.14W/m2K.

AIRCRETE PLATE PACKAGE

H+H aircrete Multi Plate package was specified for a six-home build as part of a social housing project, in Seaford, Sussex. The plates are aircrete elements which are 2.5 times the size of a traditional concrete block, which the company says significantly increases build speed. Trinity Homes said it chose the blocks because of the speed it can put the blocks in place. H+H Multi-Plates are supplied specifically for use with a 2mm joint of Celfix thin-layer mortar. The firm says that this
means minimal leveling of the blocks are needed, further enhancing the time-saving benefits of the Package System.

CEMENT SLATES

Around 4,000 Cembrit Westerland A+ rated fibre cement slates were used, alongside existing natural slate, in a manor house conversion project that has split the property into two homes.  Cembrit says the Bell Homes conversion, near Cheltenham town centre, preserves the original character of the homes, while improving the areas which had fallen into disrepair. Installed by Brown Roofing of Evesham, Westerland, the product was chosen because it offers the appearance of natural slate with the cost-effectiveness of fibre cement.
