Firm鈥檚 拢204m contract haul included retail scheme in Flemingate and science centre at Oxfordshire laboratory

Willmott Dixon edged out Wates to top the contractors鈥� league table last month, bringing in a 拢204m contract haul.

Willmott Dixon topped both contractors鈥� league tables, including and excluding civils, with the firm picking up 44 contract wins, including a 拢32m job to build a new retail scheme in Flemingate for developer Wykeland Group (pictured).

The firm鈥檚 projects also included a 拢21m job to build a science centre at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire.

Wates鈥� 拢195m contract haul comprised 30 projects, including a 拢62m job for the Ministry of Justice to build a secure college for young criminals in Leicestershire, as well as a batch of Priority School 黑洞社区 Programme schools in the North-west of England, worth 拢38m.

Galliford Try was one of the big movers last month, with a rise from 24th spot in the contractors鈥� league table including civils in May, to fourth, with a 拢164m haul.

Galliford Try鈥檚 wins included a 拢81m contract with the Midlands Highways Agency for highways improvement works.

Overall the CPA/Barbour ABI construction index hit 133 in June, up from 123 in May - a rise of 8% month-on-month and 12% year-on-year.

The index, compiled by the Construction Products Association (CPA) using data from construction information provider Barbour ABI, measures contract awards and uses a January 2010 base of 100.

Noble Francis, CPA director, said the latest data was 鈥渇urther evidence that the recovery in construction is likely to be sustainable into the medium term鈥�.
