M&E firm wins contract for 13 schools in London Borough of Southwark
拢200m will be spent on transforming schools in the London Borough of Southwark with Balfour Kilpatrick delivering around 拢60m of mechanical and electrical services as part of the 黑洞社区 Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
The Balfour Beatty Construction and Balfour Kilpatrick joint venture will work on 13 school projects across the borough in three phases.
Commenting on the award Balfour Kilpatrick鈥檚 regional director Gary Heffernan said: 鈥淲e are learning lessons through our work on PPP and BSF projects all the time and this enables us to consistently deliver the very best environments for children to learn in, today and for the future.鈥
Over the next few months plans will be finalised for how the programme will be delivered before a five-year partnership contract is signed to rebuild seven existing schools, construct two brand new schools and refurbish four schools across the borough.
The programme will receive funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families鈥 Low Carbon Schools Scheme. The scheme was introduced to make every new school building carbon-zero by 2016. 拢110m will be invested on installing cutting-edge carbon reduction and renewable energy technology in more than 200 secondary schools throughout the country.
