Contractor will deliver 53 homes to the ultra-low carbon standard
Willmott Dixon has been appointed to deliver the UK鈥檚 largest PassivHaus residential scheme.
The 拢10m contract with the London Borough of Camden is for 53 homes to be built to the ultra-low carbon PassivHaus standard.
PassivHaus 鈥 a sustainable concept developed in Germany 鈥 is seen as the leading standard in eco-building.
Willmott Dixon will meet the standard through a combination of specialized insulation to reduce heat loss in walls, roof and floor and high levels of air tightness.
The project is part of Camden鈥檚 Community Investment Programme and aims to ensure new-build social housing incorporates energy efficiency at design stage.
Willmott Dixon capital works CEO John Frankiewicz said: 鈥淎s the need to create ever more energy efficient housing to mitigate against the rise in fuel prices becomes more critical, so will the use of systems like PassivHaus become more common as the standard to deliver affordable energy housing.
鈥淐amden is making a very imaginative and exciting statement on delivering low carbon housing that others will be watching closely.鈥
