Top builders merchants’ turnover was £4.8bn in 2011 following BSS acquisition
The nation’s biggest builders merchants has declared adjusted pre-tax profits of £297m for the year to December 31.
Group revenue increased by 52% to £4.8bn following its acquisition of plumbing supplies company BSS, like-for-like revenue increased by 6%.
Chief executive Geoff Cooper said that in the face of a depressed construction market the company had achieved improvements in all key figures.
“We improved services to customers, gained market share - even before the expansion of our network - and exceeded our targets from the integration of BSS. Continued to outperform our markets and won further market share,” he said.
“Having built the UK’s largest distributor of building materials, we will be focusing on growing returns.
“With the prospect of the market softening as we go into 2012, the continued improvement in our offer to customers and gains from strategic developments will be the engine of this growth.
“We look forward to another year of solid progress.”
