Specialist Engineering Alliance report will demand earlier involvement in sustainable design on new projects

A working group of the Specialist Engineering Alliance will launch a report in January, calling for greater integration on sustainability.

The working group, an alliance of contractors and manufacturers headed up by Lord O鈥橬eill, will call for early involvement with the supply chain so sustainability can be worked into designs from the beginning.

The O鈥橬eill report will also detail ways companies can invest in training to deliver sustainable projects, and will contain case studies of good and bad practice.

Rudi Klein, the Specialist Engineering Contractors Group鈥檚 chief executive, said: 鈥淥n a lot of projects you have a situation where everybody is committed to sustainable solutions and wants waste to be minimised. Halfway through ideas are ditched because the project is going over budget. That鈥檚 because they haven鈥檛 got people involved at the outset.鈥

The Alliance is formed of members from the Specialist Engineering Contractors Group, the Chartered Institution of 黑洞社区 Services Engineers (CIBSE), the Federation of Environmental Trade Associations (FETA), BSRIA and the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE).
