Scheme will be 150m high

Plans to build Berlin鈥檚 tallest residential tower have been submitted to city planners.

The 150m tall block will include 475 flats and will be second only in height to the city鈥檚 368m tall TV tower which was built in the late 1960s by the old East German government.

It will include six floors of retail and commercial space across its 39 storeys and will include a spa and gym facilities along with a private cinema.

Known locally as the Alexander Tower, the scheme has been submitted by German property firm Bewocon.

Designs for the tower were first revealed in the city鈥檚 masterplan back in 1994, as part of an initiative to regenerate the Alexanderplatz area of central Berlin following German reunification in 1990.

The architect on the scheme is Berlin practice Ortner & Ortner with construction due to finish in 2019.
