Project is city’s biggest office development in 10 years
London tower builder Multiplex has made a rare foray outside of the capital with a deal to build a £140m commercial scheme in Glasgow for Osborne + Co.
The developer was given the go-ahead by the city council last autumn for the work, which is the largest office project to be built in the Scottish city in a decade.
The Argyle Street site has been derelict for more than 20 years.
Designed by Glasgow-based architects Cooper Cromar, the overall scheme will provide 270,000ft2 of Grade A office space across 14 floors.
When finished the scheme will provide open-plan office floor plates up to 23,000ft2.and will have an end value of around £140m.
Will Hean, development director at Osborne + Co, said: “We have an existing and trusted relationship with Multiplex, who constructed our HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank developments in Dubai to an incredibly high standard, so appointing Multiplex on this significant contract was a straight-forward decision.
Multiplex will be responsible for all the build, including fit-out work.
Osborne recently appointed Sisk to a £150m scheme for Santander in Milton Keynes. Byrne Bros is also working at the site which will be a UK technology hub for the Spanish banking giant.
