Main contractor for 拢70m south Birmingham project named by St Modwen
Morgan Sindall has been named as main contractor for the 拢70m construction of a new town centre in the Birmingham suburb of Longbridge.
The project will see the construction of an 85,000 sqft Sainsbury鈥檚 supermarket, two dozen other shops and restaurants, a 75-room hotel, and offices, as part of the transformation of the former MG Rover works.
Project leader St Modwen said infrastructure and construction work for the town cetre would begin shortly and was scheduled for completion in 2013.
Senior development surveyor Mike Murray the development of Longbridge town centre marked a major milestone in the 拢1bn regeneration scheme of the former MG Rover site.
鈥淲ith Sainsbury鈥檚 already signed up to take the foodstore and many discussions taking place with other national and local retailers and occupiers, Longbridge is set to be a major commercial, leisure and retail destination that will transform the area,鈥 he said.
St Modwen said the opening of the town centre would bring the company鈥檚 investment at Longbridge up to 拢250 million since its acquisition of the site in 2003.
The whole regeneration of Longbridge is a 拢1 billion project covering 468 acres and aspires to create 10,000 jobs through a diverse range of industries, together with 2,000 new homes, the new town centre, parks and public open spaces.
