Cleaners demonstrate in London to demand a 'living wage'

Cleaners at Mitie are on strike and demonstrating in the street in an effort to improve their wages and conditions.

A group of 20-30 cleaners are demonstrating in Fleet Street, central London. Their demands include a 鈥渓iving wage,鈥� sick pay and union recognition.

A leaflet distributed by the strikers says: 鈥淭he cleaners of London are the capital鈥檚 forgotten army of low paid workers. They work long hours doing a difficult job for few rewards.

The cleaners [鈥 want their employers, the contracting company Mitie, to work with the cleaners union to change this. To date, Mitie has not agreed to do this.鈥�

The leaflet ends by asking Mitie to 鈥渃lean up its act.鈥�
