New legislation would force ministers to publish the energy rating of government buildings
New Tory legislation could force government to publish the energy performance of all public buildings.
The Public 黑洞社区s (Publication of Energy Performance Certificates) Bill was introduced in parliament this week, and aims to put the energy rating of government buildings in the public domain.
Current law requires that an energy efficiency certificate is displayed in public buildings but there is no requirement to make this information readily available to the public.
The bill was introduced by Conservative MP for Tunbridge Wells, Greg Clark, who said: 鈥淥ur bill will ensure that government is open and honest about the energy efficiency of public buildings.
鈥淢inisters already hold records showing the energy efficiency of government buildings, but have so far refused to publish them in a single location.
鈥淧ublishing this information would allow people to see what progress the government is making on the energy efficiency of its own buildings.鈥�
