Division creates new role at business which now employs two thirds of entire company鈥檚 staff
Mace has appointed a company insider to become its new chief operating officer for its consulting business.
Davendra Dabasia joined the firm from Lendlease in 2007 and was most recently in charge of its international business after working on venues for the 2012 London Olympics as well as the legacy transformation work at the Stratford site.
His appointment to the newly created role comes as the firm said it was rejigging its global structure to focus on four regions 鈥 the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Africa.
The management teams in those areas will report to the Consult board and the division鈥檚 chief executive Jason Millett, the company added.
Dabasia will also join the executive board and will be second in command at a business which has boomed in recent years, employing 4,800 by the end of last year. That figure is well over half of the wider group鈥檚 7,500 staff with the number a rise of more than 80% from the 2,600 Consult employed a little over two years ago.
Consult鈥檚 revenue grew 7% in 2021 to 拢366m with the business expected to post 20% growth last year to take turnover close to 拢450m.
Mace wants income from the division to be 拢500m by 2026 under a five year plan but group chair and chief executive Mark Reynolds said the figure could be reached two years early and was likely to end up north of 拢550m.
The business has been growing on the back of winning work overseas such as a deal to build 75 schools in Peru, a contract to revamp rail links in Ontario, Canada, as well as increasing amounts of work in Asia following the recent partnership with Tenman Project Management in which it has a controlling stake and which Dabasia helped broker.
Millett said: 鈥2022 was a landmark year for Mace Consult, as our long-term strategy of securing roles on major global infrastructure schemes saw us appointed to deliver programmes worth hundreds of billions of pounds around the world. As we look to build on that success in 2023, Davendra鈥檚 appointment will make a huge contribution to our business.鈥
