Metallic-clad 50,000-seat football stadium in Mexico is inspired by adjacent mountain

Architecture firm HOK Sport has unveiled designs for a 50,000-seat armadillo-style stadium in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Estadio de Futbol sits at the foot of the Cerro de la Silla mountain, which the architects said inspired the 55m cantilevered roof and metallic 鈥渁rmature鈥� cladding.

Christopher Lee, HOK Sport senior principal and designer of the stadium, said: 鈥淭he Estadio de F煤tbol Monterrey will challenge the expectations of what a modern world-class football stadium can be. The stadium will be the most atmospheric football stadium in Latin America; the perfect football stadium.鈥�
