Scheme will transform Eastgate Quarter of the city
Leeds City Council has approved Hammerson鈥檚 proposal for a 拢600m retail-led regeneration of the city鈥檚 Eastgate Quarters.
The scheme is designed to transform a derelict site in the north-eastern part of the city centre. Spanning 92,900m虏, the site has been empty for four decades.
Designed by ACME, the scheme includes a new civic square and pedestrianisation of streets within Eastgate Quarters.
The development includes a low-carbon energy centre which will provide heating, cooling and electricity.
Andrew Hilston, project director for Eastgate Quarters said: 鈥淚 am delighted with the positive decision from Leeds council.
鈥淗ammerson has been working hard over the past few years to develop the best possible scheme to put Leeds firmly on the retail map.
鈥淭he scheme will create thousands of jobs, boosting the local economy, and will strengthen Leeds鈥 status as a leading European city destination.鈥
