Firm working with New York practice on US capital鈥檚 Union Station
Grimshaw Architects has been appointed to masterplan Washington DC鈥檚 Union Station.
The firm has teamed up with New York practice Beyer Blinder Belle for the scheme in the US capital.
The station is experiencing an increase in passenger numbers and the work will draw up conceptual designs for improving and expanding passenger spaces. A new mixed-use space is set to be constructed over the rail yard.
The masterplan is part of a $10 billion revamp of the station which was built back in 1907. Its last major overhaul began more than 30 years ago.
Grimshaw partner Vincent Chang said: 鈥淲ashington DC deserves a station that serves the region on a practical level whilst celebrating the gateway to the nation鈥檚 capital.鈥
