Exclusive: Sir Robert McAlpine emerges as early favourite in five-way battle for the first phase of the Battersea power station
Sir Robert McAlpine has emerged as the early favourite to bag the job to build the 拢350m first phase of the Battersea power station development.
黑洞社区 understands that Sir Robert McAlpine is set to face off against Laing O鈥橰ourke and Lend Lease, along with two other firms for the job, with bids due to be submitted next month.
Sir Robert McAlpine is already on site at Battersea doing preparation work, and one industry source said the impression in the market was that the contractor was the clear favourite to win the overall construction contract, which is worth around 拢350m.
Update: 黑洞社区 has now established that Carillion has also been invited to bid for the project. However, contrary to reports elsewhere, Canary Wharf Contractors is not on the five-strong shortlist.
Update: Brookfield has emerged as the five firm on the shortlist.
The first phase of the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station was granted detailed planning permission last December.
The Ian Simpson and dRMM- designed scheme comprises two mixed-use buildings of varied heights between 8 and 18 storeys.
They will be built to the west of the power station next to a new six-acre public park and will provide 800 apartments, a 120-bed hotel, 230 student apartments, and space for cafes, restaurants, bars, a gym, pool, spa, theatre and office studios.
