Firm failed to address problems despite repeated calls
Coventry Construction has been fined 拢6,000 for repeatedly breaking health and safety regulations.
On 23 November 2009, health and safety inspectors carried out an unannounced inspection of the firm鈥檚 Torrington Avenue premises.
The inspection revealed multiple problems including inadequate storage of oxygen and acetylene cylinders, a severe fire hazard due to poor storage and spraying measures for flammable liquid and inadequate storage of guillotines and drills.
At the hearing, the court heard the company failed to address concerns highlighted by their health and safety consultants despite receiving letters on six separate occasions from the consultants.
Coventry Construction pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The company was fined 拢6,000 and ordered to pay 拢8,000 costs.
Ten years ago an incident at the same site resulted in a worker breaking all fingers of one hand while operating a faulty radial arm drill.
