Project would be built 25 kilometers off Scotland’s east coast
A floating wind farm to be located off Scotland’s east coast at Buchan Deep, some 25 kilometres from Peterhead, is becoming reality after The Crown Estate granted a lease to energy company Statoil that will enable construction to commence.
The project - set to be the world’s largest floating wind farm - consists of five 6MW turbines which will be deployed in deeper water than any previous offshore wind turbines around the coast of the UK.
The Crown Estate manages leasing of the seabed. The business’s team uses in-depth knowledge of the offshore renewables sector - covering planning and consenting, finance & commercial, environmental and legal issues - to actively manage the seabed to ensure it is sustainably developed and enjoyed to deliver best value over the long-term.
