Contractors also made preferred bidder on 拢27m reservoir scheme

Costain

A consortium including contractors Costain, Lagan Construction and Ferrovial Agroman has won a 拢102m contract with the Northern Ireland Roads service to upgrade the A8 from Belfast to Larne.

The contract, the value of which will be split equally between the three contractors, is to design, construct, and provide aftercare for the whole of the A8 Dualling Belfast to Larne Works. The A8 services the port of Larne and carries in excess of 17,000 vehicles daily.

The award follows the consortium being brought in for Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) on 28 January 2010. The work will begin immediately and is expected to complete in winter 2015.

In addition Costain has been appointed preferred bidder by Severn Trent Water for the 拢27m design and build job to replace the Ambergate reservoir in Derbyshire. The 128ML reservoir is currently Seven Trent鈥檚 largest covered service reservoir, and the scheme will see it replaced by two covered reservoirs of 90 and 50ML capacity.

The scheme is subject to planning approval, and is currently being considered by the local council.

Andrew Wyllie, chief executive of Costain, said the award of the two contracts demonstrated the breadth of Costain鈥檚 service offering, and 鈥渙ur ability to deliver strategically vital infrastructure projects from the initial design stage, through  consultation and project feasibility, to enabling project delivery to commence.鈥
