UK firm furthers transport infrastructure expertise with Rapid Rail Link deal.
Capita Symonds has signed a £30m contract to provide a range of design and engineering services to the consortium appointed to build the £1.86bn Rapid Rail Link system in Dubai.
It will be responsible for providing all civil, structural, architectural and mechanical and electrical design to JT Metro, the Japanese/Turkish joint venture that is constructing the rail link. Its work, which is expected to take around four years to complete, will be co-ordinated from the UK.
When complete, the driverless metro will stretch 43.5 miles over two lines crossing Dubai via a bored tunnel below the city centre and on elevated viaducts in other sections.
Capita's executive chairman Rod Aldridge said: "This is an exciting contract for Capita Symonds, recognising our breadth of property consultancy expertise and our growing involvement in transport infrastructure. With cities in the UK and abroad seeking solutions to tackle traffic congestion and update and improve traffic infrastructures, we see this as a key growth market for Capita Symonds and the Capita Group."
