Antony Gormley is illuminated for the first time in years to celebrate its 10th anniversary
The Angel of the North has been illuminated for the first time in a decade to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its installation.
Antony Gormley’s 20m iconic sculpture in Gateshead was last lit up in 1998 to mark its installation and the start of a widespread regeneration programme in the region.
Although it was briefly illuminated for a special edition of the popular BBC children's drama Byker Grove, Gateshead Council hasn't used lighting on the £800,000 structure since the launch ten years ago. There are currently no plans to light up the Angel again.
The Angel was built by Hartlepool Steel Fabricators and foundations were dug by Thomas Armstrong Construction.
