Future Systems director announces formation of Amanda Levete Architects

Amanda Levete, one of the former directors of architect Future Systems, has announced the formation of a new practice.

Levete and the late Jan Kaplicky were co-directors of Future Systems, designer of the Stirling prize-winning Media Centre at Lord's and the Selfridges store in Birmingham.

The pair, who were once married, had decided to split Future Systems into two practices before Kaplicky's death in January this year.

Amanda Levete Architects will continue some of the projects won under the Future Systems name, including the redevelopment of News International's headquarters and the Spencer Dock Bridge in Dublin.

The practice has also recently been commissioned to design a 1.5m sq ft retail and hotel development in Bangkok. Levete, a columnist for ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø, will also continue to design furniture.

Kaplicky was to have continued working under the Future Systems name on his own projects in the Czech Republic such as the Prague National Library, but it now seems that the practice will be laid to rest with its founder.
