Funding has been secured for the new Alder Hey children鈥檚 hospital in Liverpool to be built by Laing O鈥橰ourke, John Laing and Interserve.

Preferred bidder, the Acorn consortium, has said it now expects financial close on the 拢237m PFI project next spring, slightly later than anticipated.

The scheme, designed by BDP, involves replacing the current hospital with a 270-bed facility for Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

John Laing and Laing O鈥橰ourke each hold 40% of the total investment equity in the Acorn consortium with Interserve holding 20%. Laing O鈥橰ourke will design and build the new hospital and Interserve will provide the hard facilities management services.

The three saw off competition from Balfour Beatty in May to win the 60,000sq m project, which will be built in Springfield Park next door to the current building.

The hospital is due to open in summer 2015.
