Almost 1 in 4 companies in the UK 黑洞社区 Contractors industry is making a loss, according to recent research.

Industry analysis company Plimsoll discovered that of the almost 1500 companies assessed, 239 reported making a loss. How many of these companies have simply had a bad year and how many are 鈥渂urying their head in the sand鈥 is the subject of a new study senior analyst David Pattison.

Pattison said: 鈥淚ncreasingly we are seeing companies making a loss for the first time in their history and I think they can rightly claim they are victims of difficult trading conditions. A quick refocus on profitability would ensure this an isolated occurrence 鈥 鈥榯he year the recession forced us into loss.鈥欌

It is suggested that serial loss makers are using market conditions as an excuse. Pattison said: 鈥85 companies are making a loss for the second, even third year running. These companies are either blatantly undercutting the rest of the market to enhance or maintain market share or, more likely, have delayed making the painful decision more prudent companies have made recently.鈥
