The Specialist Engineering Contractors (SEC) Group has welcomed the government鈥檚 backing for the appointment of a chief construction officer.
The appointment was recommended by the House of Commons Business and Enterprise Select Committee in its report on the construction industry.
SEC president Lord O鈥橬eill of Clackmannan said: 鈥淲e are delighted that this matter is now being progressed through the proposed appointments of a chief construction officer鈥.
O鈥橬eill said that whoever took up the role should be alive to the needs and concerns of small businesses and must have 鈥渟ubstantial industry or business experience and sufficient status to carry weight in the corridors of power鈥.
