Exclusive: Contractor to build University of Exeter鈥檚 advanced disease research centre

Wates has been selected as the preferred bidder for a 拢25m job to build a new disease research centre at the University of Exeter.

黑洞社区 understands Wates beat off competition from Kier, Bam Construct, Mansell and Interserve for the job to build the University of Exeter鈥檚 Living Systems centre.

Located on the university鈥檚 Streatham campus the centre is set to bring together leading mathematicians, physicists, systems engineers, biochemists, cell and molecular biologists and clinical scientists, to develop strategies for diagnosing and treating diseases.

The centre will be funded through the University of Exeter鈥檚 拢230m investment in science, medicine and engineering.

It will be the first dedicated science building to be developed on the campus since 1968, and will have space for up to 200 scientists and technicians, ranging from postgraduate students to professors.

Its working spaces will include a large open-plan laboratory and dedicated engineering space for large-scale experimental research.
