Regional contractor Tendring Construction has been placed into administration.
The firm announced on Tuesday that 25 jobs will be lost, with the remaining 75 at risk.

Corporate recovery firm PKF East Anglia was appointed administrator on Wednesday 3 December, with the aim of selling the firm as a going concern. The administrator said it is in talks with several possible purchasers.

It is understood that in October 2000 the contractor suffered a major claim at a site in Colchester, Essex, causing a considerable cash drain. The company directors are understood to have tried to stem losses by closing the company's heating subsidiary, Tendring Heating, in the spring.

As ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø went to press, the future of Tendring managing director Chris McEwan remained unclear. McEwan is also the chairman of a Health and Safety Executive-led action forum for the delivery of a national occupational health scheme for the industry.

ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø revealed last week that the health scheme had hit trouble after a leaked HSE document showed that sufficient funding for the scheme had yet to be secured. McEwan was unavailable for comment.

One industry insider said it was likely that McEwan would step down as the action forum chairman but the role would remain.
