The Maison Tropicale is under construction outside Tate Modern on the South Bank of the Thames.

It was designed by Jean Prouv茅 and originally erected in Brazzaville in 1951, in what is now the Republic of the Congo. The design was intended to address the shortage of housing in France鈥檚 African colonies. The house was prefabricated in France from folded sheet steel and aluminium. It has been heavily restored and is now part of the Design Museum鈥檚 exhibition, Jean Prouv茅 鈥 The Poetics of the Technical Object, which opens on Tuesday.
