Only a third of construction SMEs have spent money on reducing their carbon footprint according to report
Two thirds of small and medium sized construction firms have spent no money at all on reducing their carbon footprint, according to new research from the Carbon Trust.
Sixty six percent of managers and directors surveyed said their business had not invested to cut emissions, in spite of being aware of low-cost energy saving measures.
The survey results showed around 90% of companies do not measure their carbon footprint and cite lack of expertise as a key barrier.
The Carbon Trust said it would increase its loans pool to help businesses invest in energy efficient equipment.
Chief operating officer Michael Rea said construction SMEs were increasingly aware of the need to cut emissions but needed further backing.
He said: 鈥淪MEs account for around 20% of the country鈥檚 overall emissions so it is essential they are supported to act on climate change.鈥
